Bushwalking trips
Posted by Jeremy at 03/02/2012 1:15 pm
We have a few bushwalking trips coming up that aren't to be missed! So get in early and do some trips before the uni semester starts and come along. These include:

Sat 04 Feb 2012 (Daytrip) - Donna Buang via Cement Creek, rainforest and Mt Victoria.
See some cool temperate rainforest and some awesome views from Mount Donna Buang, the closest snowfield from Melbourne. We'll walk 13km including a total climb of 750m. Sign up quick though as the trip is tomorrow!

Wed 08 - Fri 10 Feb 2012 - Lake Tali Karng
Lake Tali Karng at around 900m above sea level is the only natural lake in the Victorian Alps. We'll camp at MacFarlane Saddle at 1500m elevation, hiking down to the lake in the morning on a 33.5km return overnight hike. There's an optional extra day where we might camp by the Wellington River (through to Saturday morning).

Fri 17 - Sun 19 Feb 2012 - Howitt, Magdala, Buggery, Speculation and Crosscut Saw
Arguably some of the best hiking and scenery in Victoria. We'll hike 5 km to Macalister Springs our base camp, then do some day walks. We'll hike 39.8 km over 2.5 days, taking in some spectacular alpine views.

We'll look forward to seeing you on these trips and throughout the semester!
Wedding Photos - Sven & Jasmine + Ben & Rosalba
Posted by Bob at 30/01/2012 5:23 pm
Many folks will be pleased to hear that Mat Farrell has put up many excellent photos of Sven & Jasmine's recent wedding as well as a few from Ben & Rosalba's wedding from a while ago.

If you don't know them, all these folks have been involved with the club for many years and if you hang around long enough, you can't help but run in to them. Mat is a professional photographer and does great work snapping all kinds of outdoor settings and activities. If you ever need a fantastic photographer and can deal with a guy that's always happy and helpful, look up Farrell.

Here's a quick message from him and links to his shots:
It's a real shame that I've been off the scene for a while now and don't know so many of you. For those who I'd regard as The Old Guard however, it was wonderful to see many of you at Sven and Jasmine's wedding last December. It was wonderful also to see many of you at Ben and Rosalba's wedding several years before that.

I was very proud to be able to shoot pictures at both of these weddings, and I've finally put the best of these on my Flickr page:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/flowstate/ ... 078213097/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/flowstate/ ... 080719637/

If anyone wants to see more pictures from the weddings (or anything else I've been shooting for that matter), feel free to drop me a line:

Cheers,
Mat Farrell

Oh and congrats to Sven & Jasmine on that whole marriage thing.

Gear Room Hours Over Summer - Appointment Only
Posted by Bob at 09/11/2011 9:10 am
Well, after this week, exams are pretty much done for the year and so are our normally scheduled gear room hours. You can still get access to gear for hire by contacting one of the gear officers or Bob Powers to arrange an appointment. The more notice the better the chance it can be made to happen.

Have fun out there this summer and remember to keep checking for trips on the calendar and have the gear room in mind if you are planning your own adventures!
A HUGE THANK YOU!
Posted by Bob at 18/10/2011 7:14 pm
Massive props to Margie & Gary who, completely out of the blue, contacted the club to arrange donation of an incredible load of camping gear. All of it is in sweet condition and you can look forward to enjoying the benefits of their generosity the next time you head out on a trip.

Their only condition on donation is that we use it, and I've promised them we are up to the task, so drop by the gear room and check it out!

Wishing them all the best in their move overseas and with the biggest regrets that they didn't get to know the club and it's members better before they went away.

Thank you Margie and Gary, you guys absolutely ROC!

Pubgaine! This tuesday evening!
Posted by Anne at 22/08/2011 11:14 pm
Pubgaine is a unique sport combining the tactical and navigational elements of a rogaine with a pub crawl! Teams of 4 will have a map of pubs in the CBD with corresponding points awarded for each pub visited. For 90 minutes, you and your team will try to rack up as high a score as you can by visiting as many of the pubs as you can in any order you determine. Foot locomotion only - no trams, trains, buses, bikes, ponies, or trikes. Other quirky rules and bonuses will be announced just before the start to spice things up.

OK, SO THAT'S THE MOST AWESOME THING EVER.
